Sharad Pawar Visits Late Nephew's Residence, Meets Sunetra Pawar's Sons
Hours after a closed-door meeting with the sons of former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar and his wife Pratibha Pawar visited Ajit Pawar’s residence at Sahyog Society in Baramati. The visit took place in the presence of Sunetra Pawar and her two sons, Parth and Jay.
The visit came just days after Sunetra Pawar was sworn in as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister following her husband's death in a plane crash. The tragic incident, which occurred in Baramati, left the political landscape of Maharashtra in a state of flux. Ajit Pawar’s sudden demise created a power vacuum that needed to be filled, and Sunetra Pawar’s appointment as Deputy Chief Minister was seen as a significant move to stabilize the political situation.
The meeting between Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar’s sons, Parth and Jay, reportedly took place at the premises of Vidya Pratishthan and lasted about one and a half hours. While there was no immediate official word on the agenda, sources suggest that the discussions might have centered on the possible merger of the two NCP factions and the upcoming Zila Parishad elections.
Earlier in the day, Sharad Pawar released a statement expressing his happiness over Sunetra Pawar stepping into her late husband’s shoes and taking over as Deputy Chief Minister. The NCP-SP Supremo also addressed the merger of the two NCP factions, clarifying that the discussions were held between Ajit Pawar and Jayant Patil, and not with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He questioned, “What right did he have to talk about it?”
Sharad Pawar emphasized that the family and party’s current focus is on taking care of everyone and moving forward together with those who are grieving. “As of now, there is no discussion at all about any political decisions,” he added.
The visit and the closed-door meeting underscore the complex dynamics within the NCP and the broader political landscape of Maharashtra.
