Siddhant Das is stepping down from his position as Chairman of Odisha Real Estate Regulatory Authority (ORERA) to take up the role of Chairman of the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
Siddhant Das was appointed as the Chairman of ORERA in July 2020.
The Central Empowered Committee (CEC) is a body established under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to provide expert advice on environmental matters and ensure compliance with environmental laws.
The Supreme Court, in its order on March 3, 2024, observed that the CEC should have a full-time Chairman and requested the Central government to look into the matter, which led to the reconstitution of the CEC and the appointment of Siddhant Das as its Chairman.
Siddhant Das is a retired IFS officer and has served as the secretary of Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) for four years. He has also worked as the project director of a Food Security programme for selected tribal populations under the World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations.
