Siddhant Das to Step Down as ORERA Chairman to Join CEC
Real Estate Mumbai:Bhubaneswar Siddhant Das, the current Chairman of Odisha Real Estate Regulatory Authority (ORERA), has decided to step down from his position. He is set to take up the role of Chairman of the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. Das has given a three-month notice to the Odisha government to relinquish his post as per the Real Estate (Regulation & Development) Act 2016. He was appointed to the ORERA Chair in July 2020.

According to official sources, Das informed the principal secretary of Housing and Urban Development in a letter that the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change had reconstituted the CEC and appointed him as its Chairman, as approved by the Supreme Court in December 2023. The Supreme Court, in its order on March 3, 2024, observed that the CEC should have a full-time Chairman and requested the Central government to look into the matter.

In light of the Supreme Court’s direction, Das stated that he was giving a three-month notice for disengagement as Chairperson of the ORERA so that he can work full-time as Chairperson of the CEC and relocate to Delhi. This move marks a unique achievement for Das, as he has held two prestigious posts Director General of Forests, Government of India, and now, Chairman of CEC.

A retired IFS officer, Das has a rich history of service. He served as the secretary of Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) for four years. Additionally, he has worked as the project director of a Food Security programme for selected tribal populations under the World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations.

The transition will see Das bringing his extensive experience in environmental and regulatory matters to the CEC, a body that plays a crucial role in environmental governance and decision-making.
