Steel Pipes Fall on Vehicles in Major Accident on Mumbai-Pune Expressway
Real Estate Mumbai:Khopoli, 12th July 2025: A major accident occurred on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near the Khopoli Ghat section on Saturday evening, after heavy steel pipes tied to a truck came loose and fell onto a two-wheeler and a four-wheeler trailing behind. At least two people are feared dead, with more casualties possible.

According to preliminary information received by Punekar News, the incident took place around 7 PM at the beginning of the Khopoli Ghat stretch. Due to heavy weekend traffic, the truck loaded with steel pipes was climbing the ghat slowly and eventually came to a halt. A two-wheeler and a four-wheeler were right behind the truck when the load, reportedly not properly secured, slipped and collapsed onto the vehicles.

There were two individuals on the two-wheeler and five occupants in the four-wheeler. Sources say the two-wheeler riders remain trapped under the massive steel pipes. In the four-wheeler, the driver and the front-seat passenger managed to escape, but the remaining three passengers are still trapped.

Emergency services and Khopoli Police are reportedly facing delays in reaching the scene due to severe traffic congestion in the area. The full extent of casualties is not yet confirmed, and rescue operations are ongoing.

This is a developing story. More details are awaited.
