Tesla is officially launching in India on July 15, 2025, with the inauguration of its first showroom in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex.
The Tesla Model Y SUV, a 2025 facelifted version, is the inaugural offering in India. It is imported as a Completely Built-Up (CBU) unit from Tesla's Shanghai factory.
The India-specific Model Y features a dark-grey finish, black alloy wheels, a coupe-like roofline, disc brakes on all wheels, a black and white dual-tone interior with white upholstery, a 15.4-inch touchscreen, internet connectivity, wireless charging, and voice-activated controls.
According to Bloomberg, the Tesla Model Y may cost around $56,000 (approximately ₹10,000 more than its standard price) due to a 70% import tariff. Tesla lists the Model Y at about $69,770 (₹59.87 lakh) in India.
The higher prices of Tesla vehicles in India are primarily due to the 70% import tariff imposed by the Indian government. This is aimed at protecting the domestic auto industry and promoting local manufacturing.
