Thane: Social Media Influencer Arrested for Defrauding Woman of ₹93 Lakh
Real Estate Mumbai:A social media influencer from Thane has been arrested for allegedly defrauding a 30-year-old architect of ₹93 lakh by promising to marry her. According to the ANI report, the accused, identified as Shailesh Ramgude, fraudulently took 1.25 kg of gold jewellery and approximately ₹51 lakh in cash from the complainant.

During the arrest, the police seized items including 1.25 kg of gold, ₹51 lakh in cash, four high-end mobile phones, and a BMW car from his residence. Dombivali ACP Suhas Hemade, while speaking to ANI, stated that the accused used to befriend girls through social media under the pretext of marriage. The complainant, a 30-year-old architect from Dombivli, was also trapped in the same way.

The incident came to light when the victim approached the police, saying that she had been cheated. She met Ramgude in September 2024 on a dating app, where he claimed to be a successful model. He slowly built a relationship with her and later proposed marriage. Then, in August this year, he claimed that the Enforcement Directorate had raided his home and taken 2 kg of gold and ₹1 crore. In order to resolve the issue, he asked the woman for money, and she ended up transferring more than ₹93 lakh to him in several payments. After receiving the money, he stopped contacting her, and she was unable to get it back.

According to the Hindustan Times report, Ramgude was already facing two similar cheating cases registered at Thane's Kapurbawdi police station. He had defrauded two other victims of ₹43 lakh and ₹19 lakh. For these cases, he was out on bail.

The police have urged other potential victims to come forward and report any similar incidents. This case highlights the dangers of online relationships and the importance of verifying the identity and intentions of individuals met through social media platforms.
