Tragic Loss: Confident Group Chairman CJ Roy Dies by Suicide in Bengaluru

CJ Roy (57), chairman of Confident Group, a prominent real estate firm based in Bengaluru, died by suicide on January 30. The incident took place on Langford Road near Richmond Circle in Central Bengaluru while Income Tax officials were conducting raids at his premises on Friday afternoon. Roy allegedly shot himself with a revolver and sustained critical injuries. He was rushed to Narayana Hospital in HSR Layout, where he was declared brought dead.

According to officials, the incident occurred amid ongoing Income Tax raids on the businessman. The raids involved document checks at his office, and IT officials were present at the time of the incident. After the shooting, IT officials halted the raid, seized necessary documents, and left the premises.

Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh addressed the media, stating, 'An incident occurred today within the limits of Ashok Nagar police station, in which Confident Group chairman allegedly shot himself. Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams are conducting an inquiry. The injured person was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead.'

'Income Tax department had been searching the premises for the last two to three days. We are not aware of all the details. A team from Kerala had also come. Police are in touch with the family members, who are currently not in India and are expected to arrive by flight today. At present, it is being treated as a case of self-inflicted gunshot injury. As per preliminary information, Income Tax raids have been underway for the past two days, and similar raids had taken place earlier as well. We are yet to receive full details and will share more information once available,' Singh added.

Founded in 2005, Confident Group is a leading real estate and infrastructure developer with residential, commercial, and mixed-use projects across Karnataka and other parts of India.
