Tree Collapse Kills Two in Mumbai within 24 Hours
Real Estate Mumbai:Mumbai witnessed two tragic incidents of tree collapse within 24 hours, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. On Tuesday, a 57-year-old woman, Varsha Mestry, died after a banyan tree fell on her near the ST depot in Parel. The incident occurred on Sayani road at 10 pm, with high-speed winds on Monday night causing many branches to collapse on roads. Mestry, a ragpicker, was severely injured and rushed to the civic-run KEM hospital in Parel, but succumbed to her injuries.

According to civic officials, the 30-year-old tree was trimmed, but the intermittent rain had increased the water table of the soil, causing trees with insufficient root space to get uprooted. In a similar incident on Monday morning, a 45-year-old marketing executive, Amit Jagtap, died after a banyan tree fell on him near BDD chawl in Worli. The authorities have been warned about the dangers of tree collapse, especially during the rainy season, and have been advised to take necessary precautions to prevent such incidents.
