The two women arrested for fraud in Mumbai are Lakshmi Kisan Bande, 55, and Nita Ankush Saraikar, 40.
The accused defrauded over Rs 1.57 crore from their victims.
The accused promised affordable homes under the MMRDA’s slum redevelopment projects for as little as Rs 8 lakh per unit and quick possession of these flats.
The accused gained the trust of their victims by making them sign stamp papers, collecting their photographs, and showing them so-called 'vacant' flats in Kurla and Kanjurmarg.
The police advised citizens to verify all housing schemes through official channels before putting any amount in anything.
