Welspun Enterprises Secures Rs 73 Billion Pune Shirur Contract

Welspun Enterprises, a leading name in the construction and infrastructure sector, has secured a landmark Rs 73 billion contract for the Pune Shirur project. The project is designed to divert heavy vehicle traffic away from the city, thereby reducing congestion and improving traffic flow.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has prioritized this project, recognizing its importance in the broader scheme of infrastructure development. The link road is part of a larger set of initiatives where 19 roads have been identified for development at a combined cost of Rs 9.82 billion. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will oversee the project, which is estimated to cost Rs 69.69 billion. This highway is expected to strengthen regional connectivity and improve cross-border access to Nepal.

Another significant development is the planned introduction of a toll on a section of the upgraded highway at Kharegaon. The upgrade, which includes strengthening the carriageway, improving drainage, and enhancing intersections, is nearing completion. The toll will be used to recover construction costs and fund ongoing maintenance. The project has focused on modernizing the highway with improved pavement, widened stretches, and advanced signage and lighting to reduce the risk of accidents.
