Coupang Expands in India with New Hyderabad Deep Tech Hub

Coupang Inc., a US-based technology firm, has expanded its India Development Centre with the launch of a new office in Hyderabad. The office, which opened in July, highlights India’s growing role in Coupang’s global technology and innovation efforts.

The Hyderabad centre will focus on deep tech areas, including core system ownership and generative AI innovation. Coupang is also actively hiring for technology roles across its Bengaluru and Hyderabad locations to strengthen its engineering capabilities.

“India is central to our vision as we scale our engineering capabilities and global footprint,” said Harshal Wanjari, Vice President of Engineering at Coupang. “We continue to deliver strong growth and profitability by focusing on cutting-edge technology and customer experiences.”

Coupang’s India teams already lead several critical areas, including logistics, finance platforms, fraud detection, and cloud infrastructure, supporting operations in countries such as Korea and Taiwan. The company emphasized that India stands out among its engineering hubs worldwide due to rapid growth, ownership of key systems, and a strong pool of tech talent.

The India teams are also driving innovation in advanced AI and generative AI, building solutions that enhance customer experience and streamline operations across Coupang’s global businesses.

Coupang reported net revenue of USD 8.5 billion (around Rs 70,800 crore) for the quarter, marking a 16% increase year-on-year. Its operating income for the quarter reached USD 149 million (approximately Rs 1,240 crore). The company’s strong financial performance underscores the strategic importance of its Indian operations in driving global growth and innovation.
