MahaMetro Awards Rs 78.5 Crore Contract for PCMC–Nigdi Pune Metro Extension

Pimpri Chinchwad, 17th February 2026: Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro) has awarded a ₹78.5 crore contract for station facility works on the proposed elevated Metro extension from PCMC to Nigdi. The contract has been granted to Colossus Infra Projects Private Limited, with completion expected within about 18 months.

The 4.41-km stretch forms part of Phase II of the Metro project. MahaMetro had prepared a detailed project report to extend the existing corridor from PCMC to Nigdi. The state government approved the proposal in February 2021, and in 2023, it received clearance from the Union Cabinet and the Public Investment Board. The total cost of the extension is estimated at approximately ₹1,048 crore.

Four elevated stations — Chinchwad, Akurdi, Nigdi, and Bhakti-Shakti — have been approved along the proposed route. MahaMetro had invited tenders for station-related works covering structural components, electrical supply systems, escalators, lifts, electromechanical systems, and other technical facilities. Technical bids were opened on August 29, 2025, with only one bidder participating. The financial bid was opened on September 2, and after evaluation completed on February 12, the contract was awarded to Colossus Infra Projects as the lowest bidder.

Currently, the 17.4-km Purple Line connecting PCMC and Swargate is operational, serving 14 stations. Officials said extending the line to Nigdi is expected to enhance connectivity for commuters in Pimpri-Chinchwad and nearby areas by providing direct access to central parts of Pune.

Public Relations Officer Chandrashekhar Tambavekar said the corporation is accelerating work on Phase II corridors and that the PCMC–Nigdi extension is progressing steadily. He added that the contractor has prior experience with Metro projects and that efforts will be made to complete the work as early as possible.

According to MahaMetro officials, the extension is expected to help ease traffic congestion, encourage greater use of public transport, and contribute to reducing pollution once operational.
