Maharashtra Stamp Duty Collections Near 50% of Higher Annual Target

By GeoSquare News Desk · Published 2026-10-12

Maharashtra's stamp duty collections are running close to 50% of the state's annual target for the current fiscal year. This comes even as the government set a higher collection goal and refrained from increasing ready reckoner (RR) rates, a move that has kept property registration costs stable for buyers.

Strong Collections Despite Higher Target

The state's revenue from stamp duty and property registration has shown steady momentum, driven by healthy transaction volumes in key markets like Mumbai, Pune, Thane, and Nagpur. Despite a more ambitious annual target compared to the previous year, the collections have kept pace, reflecting sustained demand in both residential and commercial segments.

What It Means for Property Buyers

The decision to not hike RR rates is significant for buyers, as RR rates directly impact the minimum valuation on which stamp duty is calculated. With no upward revision, buyers can save on upfront costs, especially in mid-range and premium properties. This stability is expected to encourage more fence-sitters to finalise their purchases in the coming quarters.

Outlook for Maharashtra Real Estate

Industry experts believe that the current trend indicates a resilient property market, supported by infrastructure development and steady end-user demand. If the momentum continues, Maharashtra is likely to comfortably meet or even exceed its annual stamp duty target, reinforcing its position as a top destination for property investments in India.
