The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has recovered ₹369.45 crore in compensation owed to homebuyers, against total dues of about ₹1,037 crore identified against developers in the state, the regulator said in an update on October 15.
What MahaRERA has recovered so far
The recovery covers amounts that builders were directed to pay to allottees for delays, refunds and other compensation under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016. Roughly 36% of the identified dues have been realised to date, with the balance still being pursued through regulatory proceedings.
Mumbai region leads recovery
The Mumbai real estate market has emerged as the leader in compensation recovery, reflecting the high volume of registered projects and complaints in the financial capital and its suburbs. Pune, Thane and Nagpur are the other key regions driving MahaRERA's complaint load.
Why it matters for buyers and investors
For Maharashtra homebuyers, the numbers underline the regulator's continued focus on enforcing orders against developers, and serve as a reminder to check a project's RERA registration and complaint history before booking. For investors, a track record of timely refunds and possession strengthens confidence in the organised, RERA-registered segment.
MahaRERA has repeatedly advised allottees to register complaints through its online portal so that claims can be aggregated and pursued systematically against defaulting developers.
