MHADA Extends Mumbai Housing Lottery Deadline to May 14, Draw Rescheduled to June 5

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has revised the schedule for its Mumbai housing lottery, extending the application deadline and pushing the draw date further. The authority stated that applicants can now submit online applications for the 2,640 flats until 11:59 pm on May 14.

The deadline for payment of the earnest money deposit (EMD) has also been extended. Online payments can be completed until 11:59 pm on May 15, while RTGS and NEFT transactions will be accepted during banking hours on the same day. This change gives applicants additional time to complete both registration and payment processes without last-minute issues.

The lottery draw, which was earlier expected to be held in May, has now been rescheduled to June 5. The revised timeline will also include the release of a draft list of applicants followed by a final list after verification, before the draw is conducted.

The current lottery includes 2,640 residential units located across several parts of Mumbai such as Borivali, Kandivali, Goregaon, Andheri, Dadar, and Tardeo. These flats are distributed across different income categories including economically weaker section (EWS), lower income group (LIG), middle income group (MIG), and higher income group (HIG), maintaining MHADA’s standard structure of allocation.

The application process had started in the past month, with the original deadline set towards the end of April. However, the authority decided to extend the timeline by around two weeks after the response remained below expectations. Reports indicated that the number of applications had not crossed 40,000 at the time of the extension, which led to the decision to allow more time for participation.

MHADA’s lottery system has been a consistent route for affordable housing in Mumbai for several years. Given the city’s high property prices, these schemes often see strong demand, especially from first-time homebuyers. At the same time, response levels can vary depending on factors such as pricing, location of units, and overall affordability.

The ongoing lottery is part of MHADA’s broader effort to increase access to housing in Mumbai, where demand continues to remain high across income segments. The inclusion of projects in both suburban and central locations aims to attract a wider range of applicants.
