Navi Mumbai Approves INR 6,904.43 Crore Budget for FY2026-27, Focusing on Urban Development

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has recently approved a budget of INR 6,904.43 crore for the financial year 2026-27. The budget was finalized and approved during a special budget session chaired by Mayor Sujata Patil, following deliberations in the general body meeting. This budget, cleared under Section 100 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, reflects a comprehensive plan for the city's development without imposing any new taxes on the residents.

The budget includes a revised estimate of INR 5,830.82 crore for the fiscal year 2025-26. After discussions and suggested modifications by the members, the civic body incorporated an increase of INR 200 crore in the opening balance. This adjustment brings the total estimated receipts for FY2026-27 to INR 6,904.43 crore. The expenditure for the financial year has been set at INR 6,889.43 crore, leaving a closing balance of INR 15 crore.

During the session, Mayor Sujata Patil emphasized that the budget was structured with a focus on planned and balanced urban development. The financial plan prioritizes the delivery of public services and civic amenities while maintaining fiscal discipline through better allocation and utilization of resources. Patil stated that the budget aims to enhance the quality of life for the residents of Navi Mumbai by investing in critical infrastructure and services.

The budget outlines spending priorities across various sectors, including sanitation, healthcare, environmental management, education, and welfare schemes. Officials indicated that the allocation is intended to strengthen service delivery standards and support ongoing as well as upcoming civic projects across Navi Mumbai. For instance, significant investments are planned for improving public health facilities, enhancing waste management systems, and expanding educational infrastructure.

Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde highlighted the administration's commitment to effective implementation of the budget provisions. He informed the general body that various departments are currently executing infrastructure and civic projects, with additional initiatives planned over the coming months. Shinde also emphasized the need to improve revenue mobilization, particularly through the recovery of pending property tax and water charges. The civic body aims to prioritize the collection of outstanding dues over the next three months to ensure adequate funding for service delivery and infrastructure development.

In addition to financial planning, the administration is focusing on strengthening digital governance systems. This initiative aims to enable residents to access municipal services online with reduced procedural delays. Officials noted that digital platforms have seen increasing adoption among citizens, making it easier for them to interact with the municipal corporation and access essential services.

The civic body also plans to conduct ward-level meetings involving elected representatives and officials to address local issues more effectively.
