Pune: Bhigwan 'Kidnapping' Case Takes Unexpected Turn as Woman Claims Voluntary Departure
Indapur/Baramati, 20th February 2026: A reported abduction case from Bhigwan in Indapur taluka of Pune district took a significant turn after the young woman at the center of the complaint appeared at Baramati City Police Station around 1:30 a.m. and recorded her statement.
According to police officials, the woman said she had left home of her own will and clarified that no force or abduction had taken place. After her statement, authorities said the case is being reviewed and further legal formalities are underway.
Officials from Pune Rural Police said the girl and the boy involved had known each other for several years. Their homes are located near each other and both families were acquainted, police added.
The development follows protests in Bhigwan a day earlier over the alleged kidnapping. On Wednesday, residents and members of Hindutva organisations staged demonstrations demanding the arrest of the Muslim boy and his family members, leading to a shutdown across the town. Officials said the situation remained tense but peaceful throughout the day.
Police said the situation is currently under control and the matter is being processed in accordance with legal procedure.
