Pune: Purandar Airport Project Gains Momentum with Finalized Land Rate
Pune, 30th April 2023: The proposed international airport at Purandar has taken a significant step forward as the Maharashtra government has finalized a compensation rate of Rs 1.5 crore per acre for land acquisition. The process of acquiring land will begin from May 4 on a “first come, first served” basis, officials said.
The district administration aims to complete land acquisition within the next six months. Land across seven villages in Purandar taluka has already been identified for the project. The process had remained stalled due to uncertainty over compensation, but with the rate now fixed, authorities are set to begin disbursing payments and taking possession of the land.
To fund the acquisition, the state has approved a Rs 6,000 crore loan from HUDCO, of which Rs 500 crore has been released in the first phase. Officials said that in addition to land value, separate assessments will be carried out for houses, trees, wells, and orchards on the acquired plots.
In the first phase, around 3,000 hectares will be acquired. Compensation will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of affected farmers through the district collector’s office. This move is expected to boost the development of the region and provide a much-needed infrastructure upgrade for the city of Pune.
The Purandar airport project is part of a larger plan to develop secondary and tertiary cities in Maharashtra, reducing the burden on Mumbai and Pune airports. The new airport will not only serve as a gateway to the region but also facilitate tourism and economic growth. The government’s commitment to timely compensation and transparent processes is a positive sign for the project’s successful completion.
