Pune Railway Station Redevelopment: Major Yard Remodelling to Take a Year
Pune: The long-pending work of railway yard remodelling, which includes the construction of six additional platforms at Pune railway station, will take another year to be completed fully, senior officials said on Friday.
A sum of Rs 400 crore has been sanctioned for the overall development of the Pune station, and the complex work on yard remodelling has been partially started. By the end of this year, officials plan to complete the entire project, said Rajesh Kumar Verma, Divisional Railway Manager, Pune.
The project was first discussed in 2016 but has faced continuous delays. However, with the railways focusing on developing Hadapsar and Khadki stations, officials stated that the project, a part of the Pune station development plan, is finally on the right path.
'The project will result in train movements from Pune being shifted. Hadapsar railway station is almost complete, and work has been sanctioned for platform number 4 and a foot overbridge to provide a second entry option,' Verma added. Work on the Khadki station has also been sanctioned.
Regarding the Pune station redevelopment plan, Verma mentioned that the final master plan is ready. Another official, however, noted that the work on the plan would take time as it first needs to be approved by higher authorities. 'It is an ambitious project aimed at the full development of the Pune railway station, which has been facing some space issues due to the increase in the number of passengers,' the official said.
The redevelopment of Pune railway station is a significant step towards improving the city's infrastructure and enhancing the travel experience for passengers. The project is expected to alleviate congestion, improve safety, and provide better facilities for commuters.
