MahaRera Sets New Record: Resolves 6,945 Homebuyer Complaints in 2025
Nagpur: The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRera) has reported a record surge in the disposal of homebuyer complaints in 2025, resolving 6,945 cases during the year against 5,073 new complaints filed, reflecting a disposal rate of 137%.
Officials said that the increase in the pace of hearings helped MahaRera reduce a long-pending backlog of cases while also ensuring that newly filed complaints were taken up within a few months of registration. MahaRera was set up in May 2017 to regulate the real estate sector and protect homebuyers' interests.
During the first 7 years after its formation, a total of 23,854 complaints were filed before the regulator. Of these, 14,902 were disposed of, resulting in an annual disposal rate that typically ranged between 50% and 70%. In contrast, the pace of case resolution accelerated over the last two years. Between 2024 and 2025, 10,235 complaints were filed while 13,003 were resolved, pushing the disposal rate to 127%.
At present, around 6,000 complaints remain pending, though authorities noted that, except for those filed in the past few months, the hearing process for nearly all existing cases has already begun. In 2024, the authority received 3,868 complaints but disposed of 4,775 cases, including the old complaints, recording a disposal rate of 123%.
The momentum continued in 2025, when 6,945 cases were resolved. 'A homebuyer often invests lifetime savings in purchasing a house,' officials said, noting that delays in possession, substandard construction, and the absence of promised facilities frequently trigger disputes between developers and buyers. To address these concerns, the authority accelerated hearings led by chairman Manoj Saunik, along with members Mahesh Pathak and Ravindra Deshpande.
MahaRera's efforts have not only helped in resolving disputes more efficiently but also in building trust among homebuyers. The authority has implemented various measures to ensure transparency and accountability in the real estate sector. These include stricter regulations for developers, regular audits, and mandatory disclosures of project details.
The increased efficiency in resolving complaints has also had a positive impact on the real estate market in Maharashtra. Homebuyers are now more confident in their investments, knowing that there is a robust regulatory framework in place to protect their interests. Developers, on the other hand, are under greater scrutiny, which has led to improved standards and practices in the industry.
MahaRera's achievements in 2025 are a testament to the authority's commitment to maintaining a fair and transparent real estate market. The continued focus on resolving pending cases and addressing new complaints promptly is expected to further enhance the confidence of homebuyers and contribute to the overall stability of the real estate sector in Maharashtra.
