Sub-Registrar Offices to Stay Open on Public Holidays for Property Registration Rush in Maharashtra

Pune, 17th March 2026: In view of the surge in property registrations towards the end of March, the Registration and Stamps Department has decided to keep offices open on select public holidays to manage the rush and meet financial year targets.

According to the decision, all Sub-Registrar and District Collector of Stamps offices across the state will remain operational on March 26, 28, 29, and 31, despite these being public holidays.

Officials said the last month of the financial year usually witnesses a significant rise in property transactions, as buyers and sellers rush to complete deals. Additionally, the possibility of an increase in ready reckoner rates in the upcoming financial year prompts many citizens to finalise property transactions in March.

Authorities noted that if offices remain closed on holidays, it could lead to heavy crowds on working days at Sub-Registrar offices. To avoid this, Deputy Inspector General of Registration Udayraj Chavan has directed that offices remain open on these four days.

Along with Sub-Registrar offices, the supervisory offices of District Registrars and Collectors of Stamps will also function on these days. This move is expected to help complete pending work related to document registration and stamp duty within the stipulated time.

Further, offices that observe weekly holidays on days other than Saturday and Sunday have been instructed to remain open on at least one of their weekly off days to ensure smooth functioning.
