Gadkari Emphasizes Affordable Housing Designs for All Income Groups

Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday emphasized that construction and housing designs should be aligned with the purchasing capacity of citizens, underlining that India’s most urgent requirement today is affordable, low-cost housing.

Addressing a gathering at the ‘Design Showcase and Confluence 3.0’, organized by the Indian Institute of Interior Designers in Nagpur, Gadkari said the real estate sector is among the fastest-growing industries in the country and a major source of employment generation.

He noted that the sector also contributes significantly to both state and central revenues through Goods and Services Tax collections. The minister urged stakeholders to focus on innovation, research, and modern design practices, while simultaneously exploring ways to bring down construction and production costs to make housing more accessible.

According to him, thoughtful planning and cost efficiency are key to meeting the growing housing demand across income groups. Gadkari's emphasis on affordability and accessibility in housing design reflects the government's commitment to addressing the housing needs of all segments of society, particularly the lower and middle-income groups.
